LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has established a digital central monitoring cell aimed at scrutinising tax payments and curbing evasion across the services sector, officials said.

According to a PRA spokesperson, the cell will continuously monitor tax payments and records of businesses operating in the services sector, including local and international food chains. These records will undergo detailed scrutiny using digital tools, with a comparative analysis of cash and digital payment records maintained by businesses.

Modern digital monitoring systems will be deployed to detect under-reporting of sales and services, manipulation or falsification of records, and attempts to understate tax liabilities.

The spokesperson said any discrepancy between a business’s actual sales volume and its declared tax records will be closely examined, while financial data drawn from multiple sources will be analysed to identify evasion and other irregularities.

Tax returns, payments and declared business activities will be cross-checked for consistency and accuracy, with both digital transactions and cash dealings falling within the scope of the monitoring mechanism.

The spokesperson added that the PRA will make extensive use of digital technology to prevent tax evasion and fraudulent practices, noting that the monitoring and scrutiny process will be further strengthened to ensure accurate collection of tax liabilities from the services sector.
