About Rs6.28m of arrears recovered from M/s Kiran Garments after show cause issued

KARACHI: The Customs Adjudication-I has retrieved Rs6.28million from M/s Kiran Garments and Export Karachi. The company was allegedly involved in a tax evasion.

Sources told our reporter that the Caretaker Collector Customs Adjudication-I served a show-cause notice on the said company for allegedly causing the treasury a loss of Rs6.28million by way of mis-declaration of classification.

M/s Kiran Garments and Export Karachi imported a consignment of silk fabrics and powder form of printed material and got them cleared by mis-declaring the classification under the Pakistan Custom Tariff (PCT) from the Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) through Examiner Khadim Waraich.

The company allegedly availed undue and inadmissible benefits as well as exemption of sales tax. It is pertinent to mention here that M/s Kiran Garments and Export Karachi itself has imported identical/same goods under the correct PCT heading 2408.2478.

Apart from it, all other importers of silk fabrics and powder form of printed material have either been declared by the importers or assessed by the collectorates.
