Additional Collector Asma issues notice to owner of smuggled betel nuts

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Asma Hameed issued a show cause notice to unknown person who is involved in smuggling of betel nuts worth Rs2 million.

Sources told Customs Today that ASO Superintendent Tanveer Raza Naqvi received information about smuggling of foreign origin betel nuts from Lahore to Karachi through Karakram train. The team searched the train with coordination of railway police and recovered 1350 kilograms betel nuts.

The ASO team registered the case against the owner and forwarded case to Customs Adjudication for further legal action.

Now, Deputy Collector Asma Hameed issued notice to the unknown accused person on the violation of Section 2(S) read with SRO No 566(1)/2005 of the Customs Act 1969.

The adjudication authority also directed Faisalabad ASO to attend the hearing on schedule date along with relevant record.
