ADC Asma orders to release fresh apples after payment of taxes

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Asma Hameed ordered the release of foreign origin fresh apples on the payment of duties and taxes and also directed to release Hino truck being used for smuggling.

Sources told Customs Today that Assistant Collector Shah Samad Hamdani received a tip-off that an attempt would be made to smuggle foreign origin fresh apples 18000 kilograms from Afghanistan to Mianwali loaded on Hino truck bearing registration number C-1660 DI Khan.

The ASO intercepted the above-said vehicle and asked the driver who was identified as Fazalur Rehman to produce the legal documents of foreign origin apples regarding their possession but they failed to do so.

It was revealed that recovered apples were non-duty paid and were being transported for selling in various markets of South Punjab but Customs teams failed their attempt of smuggling.

Later, owner appeared before the additional collector and submitted an affidavit to deal this case on behalf of the seized items and submitted a written request to Adjudication to release the seized smuggled fresh apples on payment of duty and taxes.

Meanwhile, respondent has shown his willingness to pay duty and taxes. Asma Hameed issued Order in Original (ONO) No 170/2018 in favor of the federal government under section 156(1)90 of the Customs Act 1969.
