Additional Collector Beelam-ur-Ramzan declares seizure of non-duty paid truck legal

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Beelam-ur-Ramzan has issued Order-in-Original (ONO) in favour of the Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Mianwali while deciding a case of non-duty paid Benz truck.

Sources told Customs Today that a team of ASO Mianwali intercepted a used Benz truck bearing registration no. KBL-46298 model 1993 which was coming from Kalabagh to Mianwali. The owner of the vehicle, who was identified as Mir Bakhat son of Ajab Khan was asked to show documents regarding legal import of the vehicle but he remained fail to produce any import document. Therefore, the staff impounded the vehicle under Section 2(s), and 16, of the Customs Act, 1969.

Later, the ASO Mainwali team sent its chassis for forensic test. The report clarified that present chassis number are not original as it is tempered with. The officials forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.

However, owner Mir Bakhat appeared to defend the case from respondent side but he remained failed any written reply was submitted before the Customs Adjudication. While Inspector Asif Hussain appeared from the prosecution side and asserted that the seized vehicle fell under the ambit of Section 2(s) of the Customs Act, 1969.

Therefore, Additional Collector Adjudication Beelamur Ramzan has issued ONO in favour of the Customs ASO Mianwali and ordered to impound the Benz truck under Section 156(1) 89(i) of the Customs Act 1969.
