MULTAN: Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Fayaz Ahmad issued Order-in-Original (ONO) for the confiscation of imported cell phones worth Rs 10.55 million.
As per details, the Multan Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle cell phones from Abu Dhabi to Pakistan through Rahim Yar Khan International Airport in April.
During the checking of passengers’ luggage, the customs officials intercepted a passenger named Muhammad Rizwan son of Aqeeluddin who arrived at the airport through a flight from the Gulf state. The passenger was trying to utilise green channel for clearance when the officials checked his luggage.
The customs team recovered 313 expensive latest model mobile phones of Samsung S7 Edge, Note Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy Alpha, Note 4, Blackberry Classic, iPhone 5, Motorola, Razor Max, LG Nexus and others which were concealed in the luggage by the passenger.
Therefore, the officials seized the cell phones after the passenger failed to show documents regarding legal import of the item, besides arresting the suspect. During interrogation, the accused admitted to smuggle the cell phones.
The customs formed a case against him and sent it to the Customs Adjudication for further legal proceedings. The owner of cell phones also pleaded guilty before the court where Additional Collector Fayaz Ahmad has announced the confiscation of mobile phones as outright.
Additional Collector Fayaz Ahmad issued ONO for the confiscation of cell phones after completion of hearing under provision of Section 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 along with section 3(1) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1950.
