Additional sales tax on petroleum products challenged in LHC

LAHORE: President Judicial Ativism Panel Azhar Saddiq advocate has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC), challenging additional sales tax on petroleum goods .

Sources told Customs Today that Azhar Saddiq argued that petroleum prices are decreasing in international market but are increasing in Pakistan due to additional sales tax. In his petition, Azhar Saddiq said that the government is recovering Rs 17 as additional sales tax on petroleum products. He said that government imposed Rs 35 as additional sales tax on high speed diesel (HSD).

The advocate said that the government is also ignoring clear instructions of hte Supreme Court of Pakistan. He prayed to court to interfere in this matter and also declare government notification for imposition of additional sales tax on petroleum products as null and void and restrict federal government ti impose any other tax on petroleum products.
