KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I has asked the authorities concerned of Model Customs Collectorate MCC Preventive to contact Sindh High Court (SHC) in connection with the stay order taken by the Shaheen Air International (SAI) in tax evasion case amounting to Rs41,450 million in which the airline dismantled around 447arircratfs without the prior permission of Pakistan Customs.
The sources informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned of the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I has urged the Legal Section of MCC Preventive to pursue the massive tax evasion case reported against Shaheen Air International (SAI) and get permission from the honorable Sindh High Court (SHC) to allow the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I in order to continue the legal proceedings against the said airline company.
The tax evasion case unearthed by the MCC Preventive in August2014 and then forwarded the case to the adjudication authorities for further action.
Meanwhile, the legal representative of Shaheen Air International has moved to Sindh High Court and took stay-order in which the court restricted the customs authorities to take any action against the airline.
The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I has issued show-cause notice to Shaheen Air International Limited in its alleged involvement in huge tax evasion.
In the show-cause notice, the authorities concerned leveled charges against Shaheen Air International Limited that it was involved in huge tax evasion of Rs 41,450 million by importing 47aircrafts against different lease agreement (LA) and dismantling, removing and scrapping of 12 aircrafts out of the said 47 aircrafts.
Afterwards, the airlines’ representatives moved to the Sindh High Court (SHC).
Subsequently, the SHC was summoned both the parties i.e. Pakistan Customs (Respondent) and Shaheen Air International Limited (Applicant) on 9 October, 2014 and listened view-points of both the parties.
The SHC granted stay-order to the Shaheen Air International and ordered the Customs authorities not to take action against the complainant.
