Adjudication DC Farhat reserves verdict in generators’ smuggling case

MULTAN: Custom Adjudication Deputy Collector Farhat Ali has reserved the final decision in a tax evasion case against Mobilink Communication Company and M/s Teams Technical Engineering and Maintenance Services.

Deputy Collector Farhat Ali completed the hearing of the foreign origin smuggled heavy duty generators, which were seized by the Multan Customs Intelligence and Investigation during an action near Sher Shah Road, Multan. The generators were being transported from Karachi to Islamabad via Multan.

As per details, the Customs Intelligence team intercepted a trailer bearing Registration No GLT-7098 loaded with six heavy duty generators. The driver of the trailer named Abdul Latif resident of Dosti, Mianwali presented a delivery receipt, which was issued by Technical Engineering and Maintenance Service, on the demand of the customs staff but he could not show any documents regarding the legal import of the generators.

The officials confiscated the heavy duty generators by issuing notice to Mobilink Communication Company and M/s Teams Technical Engineering and Maintenance Services to provide the relevant import documents under Section 26 of the Customs Act, 1969.

During hearing, the counsel for the Customs Intelligence argued that the seized generators were smuggled one, adding that the department has sufficient evidence in this regard.

The company’s representative, Muhammad Atique, submitted the import documents to the Customs Intelligence and Investigation but these GDs were not related to the seized generators and have been managed to hoodwink the seizing agency.

The Customs Intelligence asked the authority that these smuggled generators should be confiscated on the violation of Section 2(s) (iii) and 16 of the Customs Act, 1969.

The deputy collector reserved the final decision in the tax evasion of generators’ smuggling case after hearing the arguments of all parties.
