SHC adjourns hearing of 45 customs, income tax related cases due to boycott of lawyers

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday postponed the hearing of more than 45 cases related to customs and income tax due to the boycott of lawyers against alleged kidnapping of Owais Ali Shah advocate, son of Chief Justice Sindh High Court (SHC) Justice Sajjad Ali Shah.

On Wednesday, the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Sindh Bar Council, Karachi Bar Association and Malir Bar Association condemned the kidnapping of Owais Ali Shah and appealed the lawyer community to boycott the hearing and requested the lawyers not to appear in the courts. Therefore, the court discharged the hearing of all cases. The court proceedings were also suspended on Tuesday.

According to the roster, cases were fixed for hearing before a division bench, headed by Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, customs and income tax related cases including those which were filed by Mir Dost Chang and Ors, M/s Union Fabrics Pvt Ltd, Siddiq Sons Ltd, M/s Legend International Pvt,  M/s A.S Paper Pvt Ltd and others.

Another SHC bench, comprising Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, cases were fixed for hearing including Collector of Customs,  M/s Nishat Commodities Pvt Ltd, MCAS & W Law Associates, Ssang Yong Engineering & Construction, Advance Telecom, Habib Metropolitan Bank Ltd, M/s Milergo Pakistan Ltd and others.
