KARACHI: The Collector of the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I is considering writing a letter to Chief Collector-Appraisement (South) Nasir Masroor Ahmed about the shortage of skilled and competent staff in the Collectorate, it was learnt here on Saturday.
The sources informed Customs Today that the Collector of the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi is considering writing a letter to the Chief Collector-Appraisement (South), seeking competent and skilled staffers for running the office affairs smoothly.
They further said that the Collector of the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi after taking the charge as Collector, Adjudication-I in the month of September-2014, the Collectorate has succeeded to manage and cover the shortage of officials. However, the deputed officials in the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I are not competent enough to handle the work in the Collectorate.
When contacted, the Collector of Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi confirmed that the Collectorate was facing shortage of competent clerical staff, adding that he would write the letter to Chief Collector-Appraisement (South) to depute skilled staff from the field formation of MCC-Appraisement (West) or MCC-Port Muhammad Bin Qasim in order to run the affairs of the Collectorate efficiently.
He further said that the top most priority of the Collectorate is to decide the fate of the pending cases, which have been laying pending in the Collectorate since long. To a query, Qureshi said that around 50 cases are in pending in the Collectorate and those cases would be decided in short span of time. It may be mentioned here that the Collector of the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II Dr Ahmed Mujtaba Memon has already written to the FBR Chairman about the shortage of the clerical staff including UDCs, LDCs and appraisers in the Collectorate.
