Advance tech, skilled manpower can eliminate smuggling, says Ali Zeb

SIALKOT: Deputy Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department, Gujranwala Region, Ali Zeb Khan has said the advance technology and well-trained manpower can eliminate the menace of smuggling in the region.

He said he took over the office almost five months ago during which customs confiscated items worth Rs1625 million while it was Rs1206 million during the last year. Talking to Customs Today the on other day, Ali Zeb said the department will struggle to double the revenues in upcoming months of current Fiscal Year 2016-17.

He said meetings were being held with other sister agencies to make the region smuggling-free zone. The infrastructure of the department was also being developed, he said. He added that the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department’s field staff does not have the latest tools and manpower which is affecting the performance of the department. Not a single person was recruited since 25 years, he said.

He further said we have started meeting with the authorities concerned to enhance the powers of the Custom Intelligence and Investigation Department, Gujranwala, to put an end to the smuggling. He disclosed that a reward system would be introduced for informers.
