AFU Faisalabad confiscates contraband mobile phones, watches, other items

FAISALABAD: The Customs Air Freight Unit Faisalabad has seized more than 24 pieces of smuggling cellular phones and wrist watches at the Faisalabad International Airport during a checking of Dubai Airways flight No: FDB- 323.

The AFU customs team, under the supervision of Assistant Collector Shah Samand Hamadani, comprising Inspectors Muhammad Yousaf, Abdul Nasir, Farhan Frank and Sepoy Muhammad Yar, intercepted a passenger named Shah Ali son of Muhammad Yaqoob, a resident of Rasoolpura, district Jhang, having CNIC No: 37405-5364098-5, and scanned and checked his baggage. One bag was found suspicious and was opened in the presence of two witnesses which led to the recovery of foreign origin mobile phones, wrist watches, mobile chargers and hand-frees of different brands.

The customs team asked the passenger to show any relevant receipt or invoices but he failed to provide any of the documents. During the checking, the customs team found mobile set Samsung mobiles 7-Nos, LG mobile 1-Nos, Leeno mobiles 5-Nos, infix mobiles 5-Nos, Tel mobiles 3-Nos, wrist watches 19-Nos Citizen China, watches 5-Nos of unknown brand, hand-free Samsung 35-Nos, Charger assorted brand 12-Nos of different brands. The AFU impounded all the items under Section 168 of the Customs Act-1969. The value of these items was estimated at Rs114272 involving customs duty of Rs56839.
