AIB of Appraisement-West starts scrutinizing clearance data under SRO 659(I)/2007

KARACHI: The Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB) of Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Appraisement (West) in its recent move in connection with detecting the tax evasion has started to scrutinize the clearance data of the consignments under SRO 659(I)/2007.

The sources informed Customs Today that the AIB/R&D officials with the consent of their high ups including the Collector-MCC Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem and Additional Collector-ADC Nayyar Shafiq have started to scrutinize the clearance data of the consignments which have been cleared under SRO 659(I)/2007.

The sources further informed this scribe that the AIB/R&D officials in first phase started to scrutinize the cleared consignments of “Aluminum made cookware” imported from China under PCT Heading 7615.1000.

They further disclosed that the AIB/R&D officials have found that the importers in clearance of said commodity/description i.e. Aluminum made cookware have taken inappropriate advantage of serial number fall under SRO 659(I)/2007.

“The AIB/R&D Branch of MCC-Appraisement (West) has detected tax evasion amounting to Rs40million to 50million approximately in connection with the violation of different SROs and PCT headings in the first 15days of January-2015 in which Rs5million evaded amount has been recovered by the Collectorate through issued demand notices”, sources added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the AIB/R&D Branch with the consent of Collector-MCC Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem has already recovered million of rupees involved in under-invoicing and tax evasion through mis-declaration.

It may be mentioned here that the Collector-MCC Appraisement has clear directives to the authorities concerned of AIB/R&D Branch to leave no stone unturned in order to recover the evaded amount from unscrupulous elements who are involved tax evasion.
