PESHAWAR: Pakistan and Iran possess vast opportunities to further enhance mutual economic and trade relations in various sectors, emphasized Muhammad Ishaq, President Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.
He emphasized that promotion of bilateral trade between neighbouring countries is the need of the hour and Pakistan and Iran should take joint initiatives to boost up mutual cooperation with Pakistan.
The SCCI chief was speaking to the Commercial Attaché/First Consul of Iranian Consulate in Peshawar, Hussein Maliki here at the chamber’s house. Ejaz Khan Afridi, vice president of the chamber was also present during the meeting.
Muhammad Ishaq and Maliki during the meeting discussed avenues and opportunities to further strengthen mutual economic and trade relations between Pakistan and Iran.
Both sides have stressed the need of making joint and concerted efforts to further improve the mutual cooperation and trade relations.
SCCI is going to organise a trade expo, aiming to promote locally manufacturing products, which would also help to enhance trade with regional countries, Muhammad Ishaq disclosed on the occasion.
Ample opportunities are available to boost up bilateral trade between Pakistan and Iran, said Hussein Maliki.
However, he stressed that serious attempts are needed to be taken to remove hurdles in the way of bilateral trade between Iran and Pakistan.
He continued to say that mutual understanding and harmony can eradicate impediments in the mutual trade.
Hussein Maliki urged SCCI to give concrete proposals and share details of the upcoming trade expo in order to ensure maximum participation of Iranian businessmen in the event.
Mr Ishaq appreciated the Iranian diplomat’s commitment toward enhancing bilateral trade between Pakistan and Iran. He opined that hurdles to Pak-Iran mutual trade can be removed with joint efforts and coordination.
Stressing the need for promotion of formal trade, the SCCI chief viewed the legal trade would boost up the economy of the both countries. He asked Islamabad and Iran to take initiatives for signing economic and trade agreements.
The SCCI chief thanked the Iranian consul general for felicitating him for becoming president of the SCCI and expressed the hope that Pak-Iran mutual trade would be further strengthened during one year remaining in office.
Earlier, the Iranian diplomat briefed the SCCI chief about opportunities and potentials for further enhancing mutual trade between the two neighbouring countries.
He informed the president of Iran Chamber would soon visit different cities of Pakistan and I have desired that he will also visit Peshawar and meet with businessmen in SCCI.
Hussein Maliki vowed to take joint efforts and initiatives to bring the Iran-Pak bilateral trade to new heights. He said the entire team of Iranian Consulate in Peshawar is fully committed and making vigorous efforts to further bilateral economic and trade ties with Pakistan.
Mr Ishaq on the occasion agreed with proposals of the Iranian diplomat and vowed to work together for improvement of mutual trade relations between the two neighboring countries.
