ANF seizes about 12-tonne drugs worth Rs 12.8b in 20 raids

ISLAMABAD: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized Rs 12.8 billion worth of about 12-tonne drugs, including 11.6 tonne hashish, 5.8kg heroin, 2kg amphetamine and 2kg opium, and rounded up 20 alleged drug traffickers besides impounding five vehicles during 20 countrywide operations.

The ANF Quetta in two separate mega intelligence based operations carried out at Qilla Abdullah and Mastaung seized 10.8-tonne hashish. The ANF on pursuance of an intelligence report raided a desolate site located at Killi Malezai, Tehsil Gulistan, District Qilla Abdullah, seizing 6,322kg hashish concealed in a seasonal stream.

Moreover, 4,500 kg hashish was seized as a result of another intelligence-based operation at an uninhabited site situated at Killi Surgaz, Tehsil & District Mastaung. The drugs were stuffed in plastic bags. As per preliminary reports, the drug consignments were stocked for handing over to another narcotics gang for shifting to some unidentified destination.

ANF Rawalpindi recovered 1.2kg hashish from possession of a local drug peddler identified as Sabir Hussain, resident of Attock, arresting him at Hattian Bus Stop, GT Road, Attock, while he was riding on a motorcycle.

In another operation, ANF Rawalpindi arrested a local drug peddler namely Jawad Ali, resident of Mardan along with 1.1kg hashish. He was arrested near Sanjwal Chowk, Attock.

In another operation, ANF Rawalpindi raided near Jutial bus stand, Gilgit and arrested two local drug sellers identified as Nazir Rehmat, resident of Dassu and Liaqat Ali, resident of Kohistan, recovering 1kg hashish from their possession.

ANF Lahore raided a site located near Fort Monro, Koh-e-Suleman, Dera Ghazi Khan and seized an unattended sack containing 830kg hashish. As per reports, the drug was unloaded from a vehicle in view of the probable interception at ANF Road Check established nearby drug seizure point.

In another operation, ANF Lahore intercepted a parcel being dispatched to United Kingdom from a cargo office located at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and recovered 870-gram heroin concealed in sports gloves. The parcel was booked by a person namely Usman, resident of Gujranwala, and was intended to be received by a person named Adnan Shamim at Birmingham, UK.

In another operation, ANF Lahore arrested a local drug peddler, identified as Muhammad Azeem, resident of Sialkot, recovering 300-gram hashish from his personal possession. He was arrested from Wazirabad Road, Sialkot.

In fourth operation, ANF Lahore arrested a passenger namely Sikandar Zeb, resident of Sawabi at Faisalabad Airport, recovering 750-gram amphetamine concealed in a hot pot. The accused intended to fly for Jeddah via Sharjah by Air Arabia Flight No G9-544.

In fifth operation, ANF Lahore recovered 2kg opium from personal possession of an accused named Muhammad Farooq, resident of Multan, arresting him at Al- Abbas Wagon Stand, Multan City.

In sixth operation, ANF Lahore airport team recovered 330-gram amphetamine concealed in hand bag of a foreign bound passenger identified as Ahmed Faraz, resident of Muzaffarabad, while intercepting him at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore. He was to take off for Saudi Arabia by Qatar Airways Flight No. QR-629.

Moreover, ANF Lahore in a joint operation with Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) intercepted a Honda Civic car at Barki Bridge, BRB Canal, Barki Road, Lahore and recovered 5kg heroin concealed in it. An accused on board identified as Choudhary Muhammad Aslam, resident of Lahore, was apprehended on the spot.

ANF Peshawar airport team arrested a passenger namely Taj Wali, resident of Charsada, at Peshawar airport and recovered 960-gram amphetamine tactfully concealed in his garb. The accused was to board for Taif via Doha by Qatar Airways Flight No. QR-601.

In another operation, ANF Peshawar recovered 6kg hashish from a local drug supplier named Sheraz resident of Peshawar, arresting him at Industrial Road, Hayatabad, Peshawar while he was riding on a motorcycle. Yet in another operation, ANF Peshawar stopped a suspected Corolla Saloon near Ring Road toll plaza, Peshawar and recovered 4.6kg hashish during search of the car. A person on board identified as Abdul Muhammad, resident of Khyber Agency, was also arrested on the spot.

In fourth operation, ANF Peshawar captured Toyota Corolla car near Amber Qalay Chowk, Indus Highway, Karak and recovered 2.4kg hashish concealed in it, also arresting three persons including Umar Sharif, Abid Zaman and Sirajam Khan, all residents of Karak on board. In addition, ANF Peshawar arrested another foreign bound passenger namely Irfan Ullah, resident of Peshawar, at Peshawar airport along with 700-gram hashish concealed in his bag. He was to board for Sharjah by Shaheen Airline Flight No. NL-792.

ANF Karachi apprehended Riaz Hussain, resident of Lahore at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, who confessed of having ingested heroin filled capsules. The accused intended to fly for Maldives by Air Lanka Flight No. UL-184. In another operation, ANF Karachi recovered 15kg hashish by arresting two drug suppliers, identified as Ayub Khan and Hazrat Sohaib, both residents of Karachi. They were arrested at Al-Asif Square, Sohrab Goth, Karachi.

In another operation, ANF Karachi intercepted an auto rickshaw near Singer Chowrangi, Korangi Industrial Area, Karachi and recovered 5kg hashish from an accused on board namely Naeem Taj, resident of Karachi. Drug was concealed in his luggage.

All the cases have been registered at the respective ANF Police Stations and further investigations are underway.
