FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Faisalabad thwarted an attempt to smuggle foreign origin tyres and tubes worth Rs980000 during an action involving duty and taxes of Rs350000.

Collector ASO Dr Asif Mahmood Jah received secret information that abovementioned imported goods are being smuggled into Faisalabad. He immediately constituted a team consisting of Superintendent Tanveer Raza Naqvi, Inspectors Shahnawaz, Sepoy Afzaal Hussain, Muhammad Anwar and Liaqat Ali.

The ASO team raided near the Gattwala Toll Plaza, Sheikhupura Road, and recovered 28 said items that were being transported to Faisalabad from Lahore.

The team asked the driver, identified as Muhammad Bilal, to produce documents regarding the possession and transportation of the items but he failed to prove anything legal. So the ASO team impounded the smuggling goods under Section 168 of the Customs Act-1969 for violation of Section 2(S) 16 and 18 of the Customs Act-1969.

The ASO authorities, after registering a case of smuggling against the driver, started further investigations.
