Oil tankers strike leads to shortage of petrol

KARACHI: All Pakistan Oil Tankers Association (APOTA) observed strike against imposition of withholding and sales taxes. Due to their strike, Karachi and others parts of the country are facing shortage of petrol and diesel.

Sources told Customs Today that oil tankers stopped their supply to petrol pumps and people waited for hours to get petrol. Karachi is facing the worst situation due to shortage of petrol. A customer told Customs Today that Karachi is facing 70 percent petrol shortage.

Talking to Customs Today, Chairman Oil Tankers Association Shirin Jinnah Colony Mumtaz Khan said that the government is not paying attention to their problems and instead of solving our issues they are imposing sales tax and withholding tax. “We totally reject these taxes,” he said.

He appealed to government to withdraw imposition of sales tax and withholding tax otherwise we will halt petroleum supply to across the country. He said after getting assurances from government to solve this issue we are taking back our call of protest, but if government fails to address our issues then will be announce further plan of action.
