Appraisement-East arrest another accused of acetic anhydride smuggling

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement-East’s Research and Development (R&D) Section shifted a culprit Ali Qureshi involved in illegal clearance of prohibited acetic anhydride to an undisclosed place for interrogation.

Research and Development (R&D) Section arrested Ali Qureshi following the revelations made by three accused Tariq Sadiq, Afan Razzaq and Noshad Azam those were arrested earlier.

According to the details, the R&D Section seized the consignment of lethal acetic anhydrate during a raid at the godown located in SITE area which was imported from the United Arab Emirates in the garb of 700 gallons of windshield washer fluid.

Officials said that the R&D Section has investigated the case from different angles and aspects in order to arrest the entire team involved in the import of prohibited chemical. It is pertinent to mention that Customs authorities have already arrested the importer who imported the consignment.

The officials further informed this scribe that several more arrest would be made in upcoming days, as the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is keen to probe the case and to unveil the culprits who are behind such heinous act.
