Appraisement East arrests NBP assistant manager in pay order theft case

KARACHI: Customs Collectorate Appraisement East has arrested the assistant manager of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) in Rs 6.4 million pay order theft case.

According to details, R&I Department of the Customs Collectorate  Appraisement East arrested Assistant Manager Operations of NBP Muhammad Rehan in the case.

So far the authorities have arrested five suspects who were involved in the case. Two suspects, Abrar Ahmed son of Manzur Ahmed and Muhammad Nasir Shoaib son of Shoaib Ahmed Khan, were arrested two days ago.

Sources told Customs Today that on the directions of Collector Appraisement East Ashad Jawad, a team headed by Deputy Collector Engineer Habib and comprising Principal Appraiser Hamoodur Rehman, Appraising Officer Malik Hashim, Adil Rasheed and Samar arrested the suspect.

The authorities arrested Rehan, Rafeeq and Yousuf for stealing the pay order while two clearing agents Abrar Ahmed and Nasir Shoaib were also apprehended for being facilitators in stealing of the pay order from security section of the Customs House.

After stealing the pay order the accused submitted it for another consignment in order to get it cleared without submitting due taxes.

It is pertinent to mention here that the team has already arrested four people including the employees of National Bank of Pakistan Customs House branch in this case and conducting raids to arrest more people.
