ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation’s (ASO) car cell impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Hilux Surf worth Rs 3.5 million during an action near Dina, Jhelum.
As per details, the customs officials following credible information received through collector office intercepted a Toyota Hilux bearing Registration No LA-986 ICT near Dina.
The officials asked driver to proved documents regarding legal import of the vehicle but he could not produce the same; therefore, the vehicle was impounded under the customs laws. A notice has been served on the accused person.
Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that the ASO was working efficiently under the guidance of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to curb smuggling activities in region.
He informed that the car cell impounded 40 non-duty paid vehicles during first quarter of financial year 2016-17, adding that impounding the smuggled vehicles definitely generate revenue for the FBR, but it also essential for prevention of security risks, as smuggled vehicles could be used for terror activities.
Shahid said that the value of 40 impounded vehicles has been estimated at Rs 53.5 million, adding that the department also impounded 36 vehicles, which were being used for transportation of smuggled goods. The value of vehicles has been estimated at Rs 36.35 million.
During September 2016, the department impounded six non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 5 million some of them having tempered name plates and fake registration book.
