ASO seizes smuggled goods worth millions from superstore

KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) of the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation in its fresh action has recovered smuggled soaps, toiletries and cosmetics worth millions of rupees during a raid at a prominent superstore of the metropolis namely Imtiaz Super Store.

According to details, a team of ASO comprising Haji Aslam, Akmal Hashmi, Pervez Zardari and other officials on a top-off raided Imtiaz Super Store’s North Nazimabad Branch and recovered smuggled goods including soaps, perfumes, toiletries and cosmetics.

Sources informed Customs Today that the ASO team found the smuggled goods from the godown of the superstore.

Responding to a query, sources said that the value of the seized goods could not be ascertained yet, but it would be in millions.

The sources further disclosed that the customs officials also asked for the legal import documents of the seized goods, but the store representatives could not produce any.

“The customs authorities have given three days to the store’s management to produce the legal documents of the seized goods, after which the Customs Intelligence would make a seizure report in this regard,” sources added.

The sources said that more raids are expected at other branches of the said superstore in order to check the status of the goods being sold by the management.

Customs Intelligence Karachi Director Asif Marghoob Siddiqui lauded the efforts of the ASO team and urged them to continue their action on the same pattern.
