ISLAMABAD: Pursuing the information of Collector MCC Islamabad Seema Raza Bokhari, the Anti-Smuggling Organization launched crackdown on a godown in Rawalpindi and seized four numbers of offending vehicles and arrested five smugglers along with huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled Afghan Transit Trade goods.
According to details shared by the Collector that a huge quantity of smuggled goods will be tried to shift from godown situated at Rawalpindi to some unknown destination, upon such information Additional Collector Ayesha Bashir Wani formed a Customs squad led by Assistant Collector Fahad Iqbal along with Superintendent Arif Dar and Matloob Shah and others including Inspectors Junaid Khalid, Shafeeq ul Rehman, Asghar Kamal and Azhar Hussain Jafari while sepoys who took part in the crackdown included Ghulam Rasool, Behram, Raja Akram, Muhammad Iqbal, Shaukat Mehmood, Abdul Hafeez, Ghulam Abass, Malak Irtaza Hussain, Syed Mohsan Shah, Aman Ullah, Khuram Azad, Rizwan Nazeer, Atique Ul Rehman, Fazal, Malik Ishaque, Sadam and Sajid.
The team reached at the destination where four Mazda trucks bearing name plates LXA-9485, IDS-2223, RPJ-5910, IDS-2223 including one Mini Maza No.LZJ-3562 were ready for loading the smuggled goods for shifting to other destination. Assistant Collector Fahad ordered the squad pursuing Section 163 of Customs Act 1969 to search the godown in presence of offenders. The squad conducted search operation and found foreign origin smuggled goods including 11250 packs of cigarettes, 656 numbers of tyres, 74 numbers of gas and electric heaters, 450 numbers of packs of foreign origin shampoo, 336 kgs of chocolates while possessors did not show any legal proofs against the goods.
Customs squad brought smuggled goods at Stat Warehouse and arrested the offenders under Section 171 of Customs Act. The arrested smugglers comprised Amir Afridi s/o Javed Afridi, Muhammad Amin s/o Mir Gull, Riaz Ahmad s/o Aslam Khan, Tariq Rehman s/o Jabeen and Arshad Mehmood s/o Liaqat Ali. It is worthy to mention here that all the seized smuggled goods are Afghan Transit Trade goods. The case is lodged against the accused to start further investigation against them.
