FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Faisalabad, has confiscated 180 bags of tamarind seeds worth Rs 349,000 besides impounding a carrier vehicle worth Rs1.5m.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan got a tip-off regarding a smuggling bid, so he formed a team, including Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspectors Khalid Ashraf Noor, Ali Zahid and Sepoys Liaquat Ali, Israr Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah, to foil the smuggling attempt and seized smuggled goods and vehicles under the Section 16, 18 and 157 of the Customs Act-1969.
The ASO team raided the Gattwala Toll Plaza, Sheikhupura Road, Faisalabad, and impounded a Mazda mini truck with registration No: LES-12-6998, Model 2012, loaded with the said tamarind seed bags weighed 8000 kg. The seeds were being transported to Faisalabad.
The team asked accused Imran Shahid son of Hassan Muhammad, a resident of tehsil Shakargarh, to provide legal documents of the said goods but he failed to do so. The tamarind seeds were taken into customs’ custody and brought to the customs office Faisalabad for further investigation.
The customs has forwarded the case to adjudication after making a seizure report for further legal action.
