ASO seizes China-made leather worth Rs 1.2m

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation has seized a huge quantity of China-made PU quoted leather worth Rs 1.2 million during an action.

Customs Preventive Deputy Collector Shahid Jan told Customs Today that the customs anti-smuggling squad is using all means to curb smuggling in the region.

He said that a customs team intercepted a passenger bus on GT road which was coming from Peshawar. During thorough checking of the bus, the customs team found 4,179 kilogram of china origin PU quoted leather worth Rs 1.2 million.

The customs team comprising Superintendent Nasir Barlas and Deputy Superintendent Rana asked the driver of the bus to produce legal documents regarding legal possession of these goods.

The driver of the bus failed to provide any relevant documents. Upon his failure, the customs team seized the goods and registered a case of smuggling against accused person.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that customs department is using all resources to decrease smuggling and after adopting comprehensive strategy against smugglers, a margin able decrease has been observed in smuggling attempts.

He said that Customs North chief collector and Islamabad Customs collector are fully satisfied with the performance of the ASO.
