ASO seizes black tea, firecrackers

ISLAMABAD: On special instructions of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized black tea and banned firecrackers worth Rs 159,075.

Sources told Customs Today that the facts of the case are that Deputy Collector Shahid Jan received information that smuggle origin goods are coming from Peshawar by a passenger bus.

To check the authenticity of the information in hand, a raiding party of anti-smuggling squad was formed comprising superintendents Zargam Dil and Nasir Qadeer Barlas, deputy superintendents Abdul Malik and Ahmed Junaid, and Inspector Abdul Hafeez and the class iv staff.

The team held check-posts at Islamabad Toll Plaza at about 6pm and seized the goods and the bus under the Section 2(c) 16 of Customs Act of 1969.

Shahid Jan said that ASO seized the goods as foreign origin Black Tea under quantity of 180 Kg in value of Rs56,700 and banned fire crackers Win Wit in quantity of 390 Kg under value of Rs102375.

Regarding smuggling activities Shahid Jan said that with the Boards instruction the anti smuggling Squad cannot let anyone to evade the duty taxes because this tax evasion can harm the economy of the country.

Shahid Jan said that Collector Dr Arslan has given special instruction to Anti smuggling Squad that they do full attention to smuggled goods especially banned items, offending vehicles and NDP vehicles that  trend of smuggling can discourage.

The sources said that under the Customs Act of 1969 an FIR has been lodge against the tax evader and further investigation is underway the seizer report has been made and case has been forward to Adjudication Division.
