ASO seizes non-duty paid fabric, truck worth Rs 2.1m on Friday

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized a huge quantity of foreign origin fine quality fabric along with offending vehicle amounting to Rs 2.1 million on Friday.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan told Customs Today that customs authorities received information about some smuggling attempts. He formed different teams and enhanced checking on roads. The ASO team established check posts on GT Road.

An ASO squad intercepted a truck bearing registration number GIE-85 which was coming from Peshawar and was full of smuggled goods. The ASO squad asked the possessors about goods clearing documents but they failed to provide any relevant document to the ASO Islamabad.

The ASO staff found 2,300 kilograms smuggled fabric worth Rs 1.1 million. The deputy collector said that the squad also seized the truck used in smuggling. The market value of the seized truck is Rs 1 million. The deputy collector said that an FIR has been registered against the smugglers and further investigations are underway.

Meanwhile Peshawar Customs Station Hazara collected revenue Rs15.64 million under the head of all duty/taxes during first 15 days of December financial year 2016-17.

According to details told by sources of Hazara Customs Station that performance was goods during first 15 day of December FY16-17 adding that, during said period the Hazara Customs collected Rs4.59 million under the head of customs duty as for as it collected Rs0.40 million in the wake of various surcharges.

During corresponding period the department collected revenue Rs0.02 million under the head of redemption duty on imports as for as the Hazara collected revenue Rs7.24 million as sales tax.

Customs sources added that during above mentioned period Hazara Customs collected Rs2.89 million as additional income tax while Rs0.05 million under the head of federal excise duty on Imports of Rs1/kg.
