ASO seizes contraband items worth Rs 200 million in six months

LAHORE: The Customs Preventives has seized goods and articles worth Rs 200 million during the period from July to December of financial year 2015-2016 as compared to cases involving Rs 159 million during the corresponding period of last year, official sources told Customs Today.

The sources said that the Anti-Smuggling Organisation of Model Custom Collectorate Preventive, headed by Assistant Commissioner Dr Muhammad Adnan Khan and under the supervision of Superintendent Mumtaz Ajmal Mian, seized non-duty paid vehicles, cycle parts, cloth, cigarettes, cigars, perfumes, hair oil, mobile phones, auto parts, welding electrodes, tyres, alloy rims and other miscellaneous goods.

The ASO team also included Deputy Superintendents Saleem Akhtar, Mazhar Butter and Ejaz Rasool, and Khalid Butt, Irfan Mumtaz, Shahid Bhatti,Arif Mayo, Shahid Khan, Sajjad Bukhari, Hameed Bhatti  and Amjad Khan Inspectors.

The sources said that on the instructions of Collector of Customs Preventive Mukarram Jah Ansari anti-smuggling raid were stepped up and  and cases valuing to Rs 200 million have been made during the period from July 2015 to December 2015 whereas cases valuing to Rs 159 million were made during the corresponding period of last year.
