The ASO has seized Japan-origin smuggled used tyres of various brands, including Bridgestone, Yokohama and Dunlop in an operation.

An informer tipped-off the ASO that two trucks coming from Quetta were loaded with foreign goods.

Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad Warraich formed a special team in this regard and some officials were deployed near entrance of Multan to halt them.

Their destination was Quetta to Faisalabad but they were failed to accomplish their target. The Isuzu trucks with registration numbers SEA-436 and SEA-995 were stopped near Nawab Hotel, Muzaffargarh Road, Multan.

Some branded tyres were concealed under the used tyres just to give an impression that old tyres were loaded on the vehicles.

Total worth of smuggled tyres was almost Rs 3 million and the value of the trucks was Rs 5 million. The owners claimed that the tyres were bought from Quetta so customs duty will not be applied on them.

But the ASO seized the goods with clear and concrete evidence that the branded tyres were non-customs paid so the customs laws will be applied on them.

The ASO has lodged a first information report against the owners and further investigation is underway.
