ASO seizes smuggled items, vehicle worth Rs 3.7m

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized smuggled goods and a vehicle being used for smuggling worth Rs 3.73 million.

In pursuance of information that a Hino bus bearing Registration No LHC-5660 was coming from Peshawar carrying a huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled goods, the ASO team established a check post on GT Road near Burhan.

The team intercepted the bus and conducted a search that led to the recovery of 64 LED TVs worth Rs 1.238 million, 189 kilogramme ladies suiting polyester worth Rs 191,625, at least 312 liter hair oil worth Rs 91,728 and 570kg iron padlock worth Rs 167,580.

The team asked the accused person to show documents regarding legal import of the items but he could not produce the same; therefore, the officials seized the goods and impounded the bus worth Rs 2 million under the customs laws. FIR has been registered against the smugglers under Customs Act, 1969 and case has been forwarded to Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) department for further investigations.

The ASO team comprising Superintend Zargam Dil, Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel, Inspector Asif and others participated in the raid.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that within first four and half months of current financial year 2016-17, the performance of ASO was satisfactory, as it seized different smuggled goods worth Rs 11.42 million during the said period.
