ASO submits another FIR against M/s AG & others in betel nuts smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has directed the prosecution to complete investigation against absconding suspects, Wahid, tenant of Shed no 16 of the compound of M/s AG), Faisal Ghanchi, Business partner of (Tenant of Shed no 16 of compound of M/s AG), Waheed (Munshi and Business worker of tenant of Shed no 16 of compound of M/s AG) plot no A-46 A near Ghani Chowrangi, SITE Karachi and others in a case of betel nuts smuggling case.

During the hearing, investigation officer from the office of the superintendent Anti-Smuggling Organization Headquarters N.M.B Wharf submitted another First Information Report (FIR) before the court.

He informed that a team of Customs Department raided Shed no 16 of M/s AG and recovered 1,612 gunny bags containing betel nuts worth Rs 201.5 million, 431 PP bags containing grinded tobacco weighing 7,758kg worth Rs 3.1 million, 325 cartons of black cutch weighing 8,125kg worth Rs 203,250, at least 275 bags of crushed betel nuts weighing 13,750kg worth Rs 34. 3 million, 24 bags containing chemical “Panasa Magnesium Carbonate) weighing 240kg worth Rs 53,760, and printed packing material in 36 cartons weighing 1,080kg from their possession.

He said that during the investigation, it has been established beyond any doubt that the suspects in collusion with other accomplices in crime were indulged in smuggling of the contraband betel nuts and others goods, hence they, individually and collectively, violated the provisions of the customs laws.

After the hearing, court taken FIR into court record and directed him to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against them on next date of hearing.
