ISLAMABAD: The Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue is functioning without a registrar, even after the lapse of 14 days. The Ministry of Law and Justice had barred former ATIR Registrar Zahid Habib from performing his duties a couple of weeks ago.
According to ATIR officials, the tribunal still runs all affairs under ‘centralized system’ in which all regions report to the headquarters in Islamabad. In such scenario, running affairs without a regular registrar had hindered the tribunal’s functions, they said.
They also said that the ministry had yet not communicated on the appointment of a new registrar and there would be no surprise if the matter would take a few months.
Ministry of Law and Justice had barred Registrar of Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR), Zahid Habib from performing as the tribunal’s registrar on September 10.
According to ATIR officials, former registrar had relinquished the charge following the ministry’s order in which it had barred Habib from performing duty as ATIR registrar.
Talking to the privy, Habib said that he would join office at Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) from where he was brought to the ATIR registrar office.
According to details, Ministry of Law and Justice had repatriated Habib in account of a complaint challenging his appointment as registrar of tribunal.
