Avari Towers, Beach Luxury defaulters of Rs 10m hotel tax

KARACHI: The Avari Towers and the Beach Luxury hotel, famous for their unique services, are the defaulters of hotel tax amounting to Rs 10 million, Customs Today has learnt.

The M/s Avari Towers located at main Shahra-e-Faisal road and M/s Beach Luxury on Mai Kolachi road have not deposited any single penny under the head of hotel tax since 2011-12, sources disclosed.

The hotel tax is levied under Section-8 of Sub-Section (I) of the Sindh Finance Act 1977 on ad-valorem basis at the rate of seven and half percent of room rent per lodging unit per day, the sources added.

These hotels have to pay off the dues of Rs 10 million out of which Avari Towers Rs 6.34 million and Beach Luxury Rs 2 million, sources said.

Sources added that special committee comprising senior excise and taxation officials who would ensure recovery of the outstanding dues from different entities.
