Azakhel dry port will boost economic activities, create job opportunities: DC Mehmood Khattak

PESHAWAR: Collectorate of Customs Deputy Collector Mehmood Khattak has said that the Collectorate has made huge crackdown against gold smugglers with the assistance of law enforcement agencies.

Talking with the Customs Today during an exclusive interview he said that Chief Collector North Dr. Asif Mehmood Jah have instructed customs staff not to create any hurdle for local goods for promotion of local industry.

Answering to a query he said that all the infrastructure of the newly-constructed Azakhel Dry Port in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Nowshera district has been started, adding that Aza Khakhel dry port would boost economic activities in the province and create jobs for the locals, shifting from old dry port to new one’s process has been completed, the dry port will be functional in few weeks.

Mehmood Khattak said that Pak-Afghan border station Angoor Adda also has been start functioning from 23rd of September which will provide generous revenue to the national exchequers through imports and imports.

Answering to another query about Customs Collectorate anti smuggling performance he said that during July to August 2020, the ASO made huge crackdown against smugglers and seized smuggled goods worth Rs600 million.

Providing further details of seized goods during the month of August 2020 he said that ASO seized Rs324 millions of smuggled goods comprises 22 numbers of offending vehicles as well as 20 numbers of NDP (non duty paid) vehicles.

The ASO seized 13711 kilogram of fabric worth Rs12 million, 15634 kg of betel nuts poppy seed worth Rs46 million, miscellaneous foreign origin currency worth Rs8.8 million, 52318 kgs of food grains worth Rs39 million, 751 kg of foreign origin tea worth Rs0.717 million.

The ASO also seized 50 numbers of alloy rims in worth Rs0.806 million, 2313 numbers dandas of fake cigarettes worth of Rs4.8 million, 15 numbers of electronic goods worth Rs13.35 million, 122 numbers of dinner sets worth Rs2 million.

Deputy Collector told that ASO also seized 30 numbers generator in worth Rs6 million whereas ASO Peshawar seized miscellaneous smuggled goods during the month of August 2020 worth Rs8.818 million.
