Bangladesh earns over $16bn from exports in H1 of fiscal 2015-16

DHAKA: Bangladesh’s total exports in the first half of the current 2015-16 fiscal year (July 2015-June 2016) exceeded 16 billion U.S. dollars, up about 8 percent from the same period a year ago, official data showed Tuesday.

According to the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data, Bangladesh fetched 16,083.90 million U.S. dollars from exports in six months of the current fiscal year.

The EPB data showed export performance for December was 3.20 billion U.S. dollars, 12.66 percent higher than that in the same month a year ago.

Bangladesh export income in the 2014-15 fiscal year (July 2014-June 2015) grew at a moderate rate of over 6 percent to 31.21 billion U.S. dollars.

The country set its export target in 2015-16 fiscal year at 33. 5 billion U.S. dollars, including 27.37 billion U.S. dollars from ready-made garment products.
