Bangladesh exports reach 7.76b in Q1 of 2015-16

DHAKA: Bangladesh’s export earnings in the first quarter of the current 2015-2016 fiscal year (July 2015-June 2016) grew a meager 0.83 percent year on year to 7.76 billion U.S. dollars, official data showed on Monday.

Of the total earnings, Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau ( EPB) data showed that the country’s income from ready-made garment items including knitwear and woven stood at 6.44 billion U.S. dollars during July-September period of the current fiscal year.

In the first quarter of the current 2015-2016 year, the EPB data showed that knitwear garment export plunged 0.62 percent to 3, 250.11 million U.S. dollars while woven garments export growth dipped 7.64 percent to 3,189.12 million dollars, comparing with the same period of the 2014-2015 fiscal year (July 2014-June 2015).

The EPB data showed that export income for the last month was 2, 62 million U.S. dollars, 63.89 million U.S. dollars higher than that in the same month a year ago.

Bangladesh export income in the last 2014-2015 fiscal year grew at a moderate rate of over 6 percent year-on-year to 31.21 billion U.S. dollars.

The country set its export target in 2015-2016 fiscal year at 33.50 billion U.S. dollars including 27.37 billion U.S. dollars from readymade garment products.
