During last couple of month, the AFU faced shortfall of Sales Tax due to exemptions in many imported items like unstitched fabric, and some of textile and agriculture items were exempted from ST adding there are 21 to 25 items which were exempted from customs duty.

Because of above said exemptions, the performance of AFU suffers but overall business activity is acceptable. With the directions of Chief Collector North Tahira Habib regarding the focus on WHT, the AFU increased its performance under the head of WHT during current month.

The sources said now the AFU is evolving a new strategy to meet the new and revised targets for next quarter (April to June) FY2016-17. Revised revenue collection targets are not easy to meet but the AFU will try hard to meet the assigned targets under the heads of ST, CD and WHT.
