ISLAMABAD: Islamabad customs staff, deputed at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad (BBIA), arrested a member of notorious gang, involved in currency smuggling into Dubai, and recovered foreign currency of Rs7.72million. The BBIA airport staff intercepted the said currency smuggling in early morning of May 22, 2016-17.
According to Assistant Collector Sadia Usman, curbing of smuggling and stopping of tax evasion are a top priority of the airport customs staff. Telling details of above said seizure of currency, she said the said smuggler was intercepted during a checking at the Baggage Terminal after a tip-off was received by Collector Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad Dr. Arslan.
The customs staff recovered 60,000 Euros from the possession of the person. She refused to disclose the name of smuggler since investigation is underway. An FIR has been lodged against the smuggler and a case has also been forward to the investigation and prosecution department for further actions.
During the current Financial Year FY2016-17, the customs staff, deputed at airport, seized foreign currency worth Rs 7.00million while the BBIA staff did foreign currency worth Rs15.07million during corresponding year of 2015-16.
