Bears rule KSE as 100-index sheds 58pts till midday

KARACHI: The Karachi Stock Exchange Thursday continued the negative note of early trading till midday and shed 57.98 points to drop to 32767.07 level.

The stocks recorded the highest trading level of 32961.78 points and lowest level of 32797.02 points, with the volume of 29,571,000 shares, having about Rs2.1 billion value. As many as 244 companies were active; of which 101 advanced, 125 declined and 18 remained unchanged.

Commercial banks remained the highest traded sector with total volume of 22,196,400 shares, while cement remained second traded sector with a total volume of 12,604,700 shares.

The three top traded companies were K-Electric Ltd with a volume of 3,334,500 and price per share of 7.40 (0.01), Fauji Cement with a volume 2,828,500 of price per share of 37.02 (0.27), and MapleLeafCement with a volume 2,250,000 of price per share of 74.90 (1.82).

The top three gainers were Ferozsons (Lab) with price per share 1105.10 (40.85), Exide (PAK) with price per share of 940 (26.01) and Archroma Pak with price per share of 462.50 (12.33).

The top three losers were Pak Tobacco with price per share of 1010 (-51.14), Colgate Palmo with price per share of 1450 (-29) and Shezan Inter per share of 590 (-17.59).

Earlier, the Karachi stock went to negative zone in early trading as 100-index shed 61.15 points to reach 32763.88 points.

On Wednesday, the KSE witnessed dull and lackluster trading activities due to year end. As a result, the benchmark KSE 100-share index rose by just 13 points to close at 32825.03 points. Total volume decreased by 45% to 79m shares as compared to 144m shares of Tuesday while traded value also declined by 40% to Rs 5.1b from Rs8.5b. Of total 326 traded companies in session, 164 concluded in advance, 147 in declines whereas 15 remained unchanged.
