DHAKA: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 50,000 Yaba tablets at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.
The banned tablets were seized during a drive in Nayaparha area here the other day.
BGB-42 Battalion Commander Lt Col Abu Zar Al Jahid told bdnews24.com that the tablets were worth Tk 15 million.
No one could be arrested during the drive.
On Saturday, BGB seized 50,000 Yaba tablets from Nazirparha area.
Meanwhile, police in Chittagong arrested one Samiul Haque with 10,000 yaba tablets.
Baklia Police Station OC Mohammad Mohsin said he was travelling from Cox’s Bazar to Narayanganj.
The Yaba tablets were found during a search in the bus by which he was travelling, he added.
Yaba or speed tablets are manufactured in Myanmar’s infamous ‘Golden Triangle’ mostly by the United Wa State Army but by other smaller players as well. More of these are finding their way in Myanmar’s neighbouring countries like India and Bangladesh.
