Bid to smuggle Iranian petrochemicals & sulphonic acid valued at Rs20m frustrated

ISLAMABAD: The MCC Quetta foiled an attempt of smuggling of Iranian petrochemicals and sulphonic acid worth Rs20millions coming from Panjgur near Mastung with the assistance of Deputy and Assistant Commissioners Mastung.

On 26.4.2018 at about 2:00am in pursuance of  secret information that certain unscrupulous elements would attempt to smuggle Iranian origin petrochemicals and sulphonic acids. The Collector, Customs Quetta, Ashraf Ali directed both Additional Collectors Samiul Haq and Zubair Shah who passed the tip-off on to Deputy Collector Maqbool Baloch who runs the anti-smuggling section.
The sources told CT that, keeping in view the law and order of the region, local administration was requested for assistance. Deputy Commissioner Mastung Abdul Jabbar Baloch and Assistant Commissioner Mastung Jumadad Mandokhail along with DC Customs Maqbool Baloch, levies forces and four Customs Mobiles under the supervision of Superintendent Maqsood Durrani and Inspectors Shahzad Akhtar, Nasrullah Khattak, Ghulam Hussain Khoso, Shabir Khan and Asghar Kaker, intercepted two 10-wheelers trucks near Shamsabad Mastung. The vehicle was coming from Panjgur moving towards Sibi Bolan eoad.
After interception, the customs staff on a thorough search, the truck bearing registration No: GLT 3452 was found carrying smuggled 22,000kg of Sulphonic Acid and truck No. TKX 463 was loaded with 20,500kg of contraband petroleum Jelly.
The sources told the correspondent that the market value of the seized goods is approximately Rs20million.
