SHIPMENTS: As fiber deployments continue to ramp up, global shipments of fiber-based broadband customer premise (CPE) equipment are rising. ABI Research predicts 153.6 million CPE units will be shipped in 2015.
“Fiber-optic broadband CPE device shipments are expected to increase 12 percent in 2015 although DSL and cable CPE device markets are likely to see a slight decline in total shipments,” Jake Saunders, VP and practice director, said in a statement.
DSL CPE shipments are expected to decline two percent in 2015 as compared to 2014. ABI says DOCSIS 3.0 still accounts for about 90 percent of all cable CPE shipments, but DOCSIS 3.1-supported products, capable of up to 10 Gbps broadband, will begin to show up in late 2016.
ABI says that ZTE accounts for the biggest chunk of worldwide CPE shipments in 2015, snagging 19 percent of the total. ARRIS and Huawei are behind ZTE in terms of market share. In terms of global fiber-optic CPE shipments, the Asia-Pacific market accounts for a whopping 70 percent in 2015.
