AMRITSAR: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel seized 4kg heroin, valued around Rs 20 crore in the international market, near the Rattoke border outpost in Ferozepur here the other day.
BSF deputy inspector general, Ferozepur sector, R K Thapa said BSF troops observed some suspicious movement on the other side of the border fence while patrolling along the outpost. When challenged, the Pakistani smugglers who were throwing some packets over the fence, took no heed. “Sensing danger to their lives and to check further misadventure of Pakistan smugglers, BSF troops opened fire,” he said. The smugglers managed to escape taking cover of darkness and heavy growth of wild grass, he added. BSF jawans searched the place and found four packets of heroin.
BSF deputy inspector general R S Kataria informed that the force this year had seized around 149kg heroin and around Rs 5.3 lakh fake Indian currency notes from the border.
