ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has called upon the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to take urgent measures to address the water crisis in Islamabad as many areas of the federal capital were facing serious water shortage. Especially the industries in I-9 and I-10 sectors and the residents of these areas were facing non-availability of water since long.
ICCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh said that CDA’s water supply system has almost collapsed in many sectors as there was no supply of water. He said I-9 and I-10 sectors were the worst hit areas in terms of water supply and water tanker mafia was fully exploiting this situation to mint money. He said CDA should pay urgent attention to this serious issue as people were going through a very tough time in this hot summer and industries were also suffering without availability of water.
Senior Vice President Sheikh Pervez Ahmed and Sheikh Vice President Abdul Waheed said that due to collapse of water supply system, people were coming on streets and launching protests against the civic body, but it was still unmoved to address this hot issue. They said without water, residents were approaching CDA for supply of water through tankers, but these tankers were not supplying water on time despite the fact that CDA was spending huge amounts on their fuel and maintenance.
They said as many as 21 water tankers of CDA were reportedly out of order and this situation has contributed to worsen the water crisis affected sectors. They stressed that CDA should arrange bores in areas worst hit by water crisis to ensure regular supply of water which was basic need of human life.
