KARACHI: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide state of the art equipment to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to improve security at the airports. The JICA grant-in-aid will improve the security at the airport and meet the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation, Transportation Security Administration; and European Civil Aviation Conference.
The CAA has initiated the project and equipment will be installed at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad. The equipment to be installed include EDS Baggage Scanners (single view and CT technology both), cargo vehicle container scanner, and vehicle scanners.
After the installation of the equipment, the CAA’s capability will be enhanced to address the threats by scanning passengers’ baggage. The technology will be used to scan EU bound baggage with explosive detection system and cargo vehicles with containers are also subjected to cargo scanners at the entrance of the export cargo areas. Introduction of security articles / requirements in the restricted areas have been fortified after completion of this project.
