ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Division has returned the summary forwarded by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) suggesting up-gradation of the ranks of officials.

According to the sources, FBR had proposed up-gradation of Pakistan Customs’ superintendents and principal appraisers from BPS-16 to BPS-17.

Highlighting the anomalies, the Cabinet Division has asked the FBR to review the proposal under the Civil Servants Act, 1973 to up-grade the ranks.

Meanwhile, 75 percent posts of assistant collector (BS-17) are filled by initial appointments through CSS exams and 25 percent from the department cadre.

Customs superintendent, superintendent preventive and principal appraiser are the feeding posts of assistant collector and placing the feeding post at the level of assistant collector’s pay scale will result in a hierarchical anomaly.
