TORONTO: Auto sales in Canada rose 5 percent to 163,053 vehicles during October, according to a monthly industry report.
For the year-to-date through October, auto sales in Canada have gained 2.7 percent to 1.6 million vehicles, the monthly Desrosiers report said today.
GM Canada led the way, saying its October sales under the Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands rose 5.5 percent to 23,268 vehicles.
FCA Canada said its sales rose 0.4 percent to 22,384 vehicles in October.
“As we head into the final months of 2015, we are on track to reach our highest annual sales levels ever,” Dave Buckingham, FCA Canada’s COO, said in a statement.
Ram pickup truck sales grew 8 percent to 6,979 trucks while Jeep sales were up 12 percent for the month.
Ford Motor Co. finished a close third with sales growing 0.1 percent to 22,088 vehicles, Ford said. Bucking overall trends, Ford car sales increased 3 percent during the month while truck sales fell 0.5 percent.
Ford said the gains in cars were driven by a 17 percent boost in Focus sales and a 45 percent surge by Mustang. “This makes for the eighth consecutive month of sales increases for the Mustang,” Ford of Canada said in a statement.
