BARRIE: Two people have been charged and 12 guns have been seized in a bust on Tuesday in Barrie.
The Canada Border Services Agency intercepted a package in the Mississauga area that was destined for Barrie. It was determined that the package contained a device that could turn a single shot firearm into an automatic.
CBSA officers alerted Barrie police and, officers executed a search warrant at the home on Lyfytt Crescent just before noon.
Inside, officers arrested Mitchell Hebb, 28, and a 59-year-old woman. They also seized:
• Twelve firearms
• Two silencers
• Thirty-five prohibited magazines
• Forty legal magazines
• Roughly 10,000 rounds of ammunition
• Holsters, gun belt and magazines pouches
• Bullet proof vest
A pound of marijuana, two ounces of hashish and eight grams of “shatter”
Both of the accused face 19 firearm related offences, including making an automatic firearm and possession of a prohibited firearm. They also face four drug related offences.
Police say the investigation is still early going and officers are trying to determine the reason behind the cache of weapons.
Anyone with information about the weapons is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
