The modest inflation was higher than the 1.0 percent posted in June, but lower than what analysts had forecast. According to Statistics Canada, prices were higher for meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, and clothing. Although passenger vehicles cost more, overall transportation costs fell, driven by lower gasoline prices. Excluding energy, inflation has topped 2.0 percent over the past year.
