CBP seizes $338K cocaine at Hidalgo International Bridge

HIDALGO: U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested a 19-year-old man from McAllen, Texas after discovering 16 packages of alleged cocaine hidden within the Chevy Malibu he was driving.

“Our frontline officers’ continued vigilance and perseverance has enabled them to detect these hard narcotics and help keep dangerous drugs from crossing our borders,” said Acting Port Director Javier Cantu, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.  “These efforts are part of our daily activities at CBP Office of Field Operations.”

Afghan route closure weighs on Pakistan-Central Asia trade, exports fall 9%, imports plunge 88%

Bundles containing 43.91 pounds of cocaine seized by CBP officers at the Hidalgo International BridgeCBP officers working at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on April 29 encountered a male U.S. citizen driving a black 2005 Chevy Malibu and referred him and the vehicle for a more thorough examination. While inspecting the vehicle in secondary, and with the use of a vehicle non-intrusive imaging system, officers discovered packages of alleged cocaine weighing approximately 43.91 pounds. CBP OFO seized the narcotics which carry an estimated street value of $338,640 and seized the Malibu as well.

CBP OFO arrested the male traveler who was ultimately released to a Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) special agent’s custody for further investigation.
